Ashely McBryde goes dark on her new single with the story of an Urban Legend from the Martha Divine swimming hole in Kentucky. Although the real story of the swimming hole didn’t fit the song, Ashley and co-writer Jeremy Spillman used the location to create a new story song.
Inspired by Dolly Parton’s classic ‘Jolene’, the song suggests that rather than begging Jolene to “not take my man”, they warn Jolene, “I’m coming after you with a shovel”. The song also takes a unique twist in that it’s told from the perspective of the daughter.
